Take what resonates with you. Big critique is that it is god-heavy and can be gender essentialist at times (especially in the latter chapters). However, Hooks’ decisive statements open room for important discussions on love. Two standout moments are when she declares that love & abuse can’t coexist and how intergenerational trauma affects parenting.
