The Princess Bride: S. Morgenstern's Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure by William Goldman

4.0

The Princess Bride was a heartwarming, nostalgic read for me. I have always loved the movie, and the book did not disappoint.

This is a abridged edition of S. Morgenstern's original with quite a bit of commentary from William Goldman, so be aware!

Pros:
+ I loved that we got more background on each of the characters!
+ The writing style was engaging and flowed well.
+ The pacing was good! I never felt bored and was constantly eager to turn the page to see what happened next.

Cons:
- The ending felt a bit undone. I wish it had ended like it did in the movie (as William Goldman himself says too).
- While, as a fan of the movie, I enjoyed Goldman's insertions and explanations, at times they detracted from the actual story and plot.
- This is evidently a book written by a man - Buttercup is quite one-dimensional and dull, with the entirety of her character revolving around her external beauty.
