Cities of Smoke and Starlight by Alli Earnest
5.0
A friend was the one who introduced me to this book by sending me a TikTok the author posted. Just based on that video I knew I had to check out Cities of Smoke and Starlight and so I immediately went and bought it on my Kindle. And I have to say I'm so thankful my friend sent me that video because I absolutely loved this book. I thought the story was interesting and the author created an interesting world that I hope we get to learn more about.
As for the characters I thought they were all well written but of course Kase was my favorite. I loved the slow progression between him and Hallie as they went from enemies to reluctant colleagues to friends (that clearly like each other but haven't figured it out yet). I knew going in that there was no love confession or kiss in this book but even still I groaned in frustration at each almost kiss they shared. Despite that I personally still very satisfied with the romance aspect in this book. Most likely because one, their relationship seemed to go at a natural progression and didn't feel rushed. And two, because I know there's a second book. I'm excited to read the next book.
