A very good epic spanning two generations with war, love, sex and exploration. Everything I love in a book. However, the author has a tendency to spoil the future of his characters. Throwaway sentences or musings that make it clear that the characters will survive for many years into the future and succeed in their indevours before any of it happens. Knowing that a character will live to a ripe old age a victor robs the book of an awful lot of tension. Near-death scenes aren't nail-biting anymore.
