I really enjoy this series—Kennedy Ryan creates such rich, layered characters, each with their own struggles and triumphs that make them feel real.

This final book follows Hendrix, a character we’ve known since book one, and I was very excited to finally get her story. While I’ll admit this ended up being my least favorite of the three, I still thoroughly enjoyed it and walked away feeling like I got a lot out of it both emotionally and intellectually.

One of the aspects that hit me hardest was the portrayal of Alzheimer’s and the reality of caregiving. Alzheimer’s and dementia touch so many lives, and Kennedy Ryan captured the emotional toll and delicate balance of caring for a loved one while trying not to lose yourself in the process. As someone walking through this struggle in my own life, this part of the book made me feel seen and less alone.

Representation is, as always, a strength in Kennedy Ryan’s writing. Hendrix is a powerful Black woman written with care, nuance, and respect. I especially appreciated seeing her firmly childfree by choice. Too often romance defaults to a heroine who changes her mind about family once she finds “the one.” Hendrix staying true to her convictions was refreshing and incredibly validating, especially as this is a conversation many in my generation are actively having, often under the weight of societal pressure.

I also appreciated the maturity of these characters—both in their age and how they handle life. That said, while I definitely felt a connection between Hendrix and Maverick, something felt missing. Their romance sometimes read as rushed, and for a 400-page book, I expected more development. The pacing also dragged in places, the climax felt anticlimactic, and some subplots were left underdeveloped.

Still, I loved how the series closed with the Skyland women together, supporting one another and thriving. It was a beautiful way to end. While this wasn’t my favorite of the trilogy, it was still a meaningful, emotional read that left me thinking long after I closed the book.
