Ripper by Isabel Allende
4.0

I first read Allende my freshman year of college. I was taking a class called International Short Fiction by women and Allende's collection 'The Stories of Eva Luna' gave an interesting insight into Chile. When I saw this book sitting on the shelf at my library, I assumed I would be checking out a novel about Chile just like the stories I had read previously. I obviously didn't see the huge picture of the Golden Gate Bridge on the cover....

Regardless, this book pulled me in and I was hooked until the end. The characters are so lovable. They have real conversations about their real problems and their real flaws and successes. I really enjoyed the young girl character. She was intelligent and very mature. It is not very often that novelists portray young girls in this way.

This book is worth a read. It has some twists and turns but it's not going to leave you shocked. A wonderfully grippy crime novel all the same!
