not as good as the first book in the series BUUUUT defy the worlds was still a fast paced, gritty sci-fi adventure with the perfect balance of philosophical exploration and a surprisingly well developed romance. i really liked noemi and abel in this, how they're both able to be strong, to have agency, be interesting as individuals just as much as when they are together. i can't wait to read the trilogy's finale!
