The Magnolia Story
by Joanna Gaines, Chip Gaines
As if I didn't already love Chip and Joanna from watching them on Fixer Upper, The Magnolia Story made me love them even more, and for new reasons.
Unfortunately, Fixer Upper isn't the venue for Chip and Jo to talk about their faith, but this book proved to be the perfect venue. I knew they were Christian, but actually hearing (reading) them attribute all of their successes (and "failures") to God's plan for their lives is truly inspiring.
One of my favorite moments in the book is when Jo writes that maybe we all know ourselves best when we are children. As children, we live freely, simply doing (playing) what makes us happy. Jo reflects back on her childhood and remembers she was always creating, and always pretending to play shop. It only makes sense that she would grow up, marry Chip (who also has an entrepreneurial spirit), and run a business. What I love about their business, besides their awesome rustic style, is that Chip and Jo can look back and see God's hand in everything....even the valleys of their life together.
I also loved gaining new eyes for just how much Chip supports Jo. She admits she is an introvert by nature, and never would have pursued any of her dreams she is living now if Chip hadn't pushed her. She knows God brought them together to make their family and business what it is.
And that's what makes this book so special. Not only is it the story of how Chip and Jo came to be, how Magnolia came to be, but it is a story of how having faith in God and truly letting Him take the reins can lead to some pretty miraculous things...bigger than any of us can even imagine. How's that for inspiration?!
