The Cheerleaders by Kara Thomas

4.5 stars.

This book was really good and I enjoyed the characters a lot. Monica was a refreshing new main character after my last read and her flaws and strengths complimented the book very well.

It was really interesting to see the parallels between both Monica and her friend group compared to Jen, Monica's older sister, and her friend group. I do wish I could have had a little bit more insight into Jen's storyline, though for the plot of the story it was just enough-- she is just a character I would have liked to know more about.

Monica slowly becoming closer and closer to Ginny was very similar to Julianna befriending Carly, however the Monica Ginny relationship was far more healthy and stable. and I was slightly worried that the similarities would result in more deaths but was happily surprised that it didn't.

The entire Brandon character and role in the story was incredible. His placement from the beginning made the reader thing it was a side plot, and a minor problem for Monica to overcome, however as the story goes on, and we get to the end we realize that that is far from the truth.

While this book was amazing, and I truly enjoyed it, I have to say I'm a little disappointed by the ending. I think the whole 'Ginny thing' was wrapped up nicely and I don't have any problems with that, though I can see how some people would, my main issue is that the entire story we're expecting the deaths to be related, and at some points that theory is straight out said, but at the end we find out that they're far from it. I would have also liked more of a wrap up in the end, with Monica confronting Ginny, but because of the Ginny perspective, it makes sense that she wouldn't. we're also told that Jen did leave a note, and there's little reference, with Monica's mom talking to her, but we never actually see the note.

Aside from the minor points and loose ends (especially the fight between Monica and Rachel just magically being alright) I loved this book, and will definitely be recommending it.
