I really wanted to LOVE this book - there are so many aspects of the book I enjoy : the rootcrafting, lore, linking her heritage/ancestry to magic etc
But other aspects such as the more interesting characters like Alice, the therapist etc didn’t seem to have much characterization and the insta-romance didn’t move me. Also the book seemed to drag on for too long and the unnecessarily capitalization of everything was, well unnecessary.
But the last half of the story was interesting enough that I will read the second book - the twist and learning about Bree’s ancestors and how she’s connected to the legend born is so well done especially in regards to her as an African American.
