Captivating history of an amazing era

What an era that must have been? It produced some of the world's finest paintings, while most of the Duke, Counts, Kings and Emperors were waging war on each other. At times it didn't even seem to matter against who they were fighting. ;o)

Bart Van Loo tells a brilliant story, although I have to admit that the family trees and maps provided at end of the book are indispensable to understand the relations between the different nobles. At first it left me a bit confused, but once you get the general idea of the relations between the countries and their leaders, it becomes a real joy to immerse yourself in this fantastic (but also very cruel) era. The author is a natural story teller (he also has a stage performance of the same topic) and I loved reading it. I certainly hope that he will find a time for a sequel (the next generation).

For everyone who loves history, this book will give you hours of pleasure.
