Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
3.5
funny informative lighthearted reflective medium-paced

This review is a story in three parts, just like this book.

Italy: I really enjoyed this section. It is totally a love letter to Italy, the people and espeically the food. It was a joy to read and it made me want to go and visit. 4 stars

India: This is where things went awry for me. The ashram could have been anywhere. India is not a feature at all and there is a lot of spiritual stuff that I quite frankly found dull. This whole section is somewhat saved by Richard from Texas but not enough to make redeem the whole thing. 2.5 stars

Thailand: This is more like the Italy section. The Thai people, culture, food etc features heavily and she encounters some real characters. The old medicine man is an absolute treasure. What wisdom! It is in the part where she falls in love again, but you really do get a sense that whilst it is with a man it is also closely linked to her falling in love with herself and her life. 4 stars

The whole book is whimsical and in parts magical but there is also a lot of introspective naval gazing and spiritual woo woo that I just didn't enjoy hence the overall rating of 3.5 star

However this book was gifted to me by my beautiful from and I know it holds a special place in her heart and for that I am so happy I read it and know her a little bit better than I did before.
