Kill Show by Daniel Sweren-Becker
4.0

I received a finished copy of Kill Show from the publisher which I am incredibly grateful for. As soon as I heard about this book, I knew I wanted to read it because of my fascination with true crime as a genre. It is a fictitious story that very well could be real and that is part of its draw. It follows the story of sixteen year old Sara Parcell, who goes missing one day on her way to school. All of a sudden, her family is thrust into the public eye when a reality tv film crew shows up to their home and asks to film live coverage of the search to find her. The family agrees because they think this will help find Sara.

It is told exclusively in ‘interviews’ with the different characters, Sara’s parents, her little brother, her teachers, friends, the suspects, and the film crew that is filming the reality tv series about her disappearance.

It really makes you think about true crime and the role that it plays in the entertainment industry. You question if victims and their families are being exploited by Hollywood. There are so many underlying themes throughout this book that really make you look deeper at the characters and true crime as a genre. Throughout the entire book, I kept wondering if this was a true story or at least based on a real story, but it is completely fictional, but could easily be a true story. I enjoyed this book so much, it was such a quick and easy read, and I think any true crime fan will devour this book.
