The Devil and Mrs. Davenport by Paulette Kennedy

Did not know I was in for such a cool blending of historical fiction, supernatural/gothic, mystery, and family. This was a very excellently crafted story which brought a cool unique twist to historical fiction. The first half was definitely rough in terms of content as it activated almost all the trigger warnings out there but despite it being so horrible I was compelled to keep reading because there were causes for hope. It also felt very grounded in history which made it worse but the gothic elements were well illustrated and blended.

I knocked the last half star off because I felt that the novel resolved very quickly and really nicely which felt a little unrealistic given the number of obstacles she had JUST highlighted for her to achieve anything. But all in all an unexpectedly good read and would definitely recommend.
