This story was based on a true account of history of my people and I'm so glad I got to learn about Happy Land. It was such a pivotal story that needed to be told. It made me mad, had me laughing and crying. This was an emotional ride. The author did a phenomenal job tap dancing on all my emotions. I loved Louella's character so much. She was truly the epitome of who and what a strong black woman is. She not only fought for her rights and respect but for the rights of her people. I was truly inspired by the breakdown of the hate in her heart as she was able to love and allow herself to be loved. In those times I could only fathom how hard that must have been, with suffering so much loss as she did. Whew but God!!! To see all that they went through, the struggles, hardships, losses and suffering of slavery to having a kingdom that was built just for them by them was so powerful!!!!! This will not be told in schools but all people should read this story!!!!!
