Will is still entertaining and carries the series. I love seeing Emmy fight back against all the bullshit that happens. The humour in this one moves away from 'lol Will is stupid', which is a relief. The writing is smooth and enjoyable.

The downsides? The lore that is revealed in this book contradicts what we were told previously. Staviti's origin is completely different in this book. Then there is the problem that Will is told she needs a lot of information, only to be given piecemeal information and told that's it. That is incredibly frustrating.

I still don't understand how Will and Emmy's relationships can be considered romantic? The Abcurse brothers treat Will more like a pet than anything else, constantly picking her up and dragging her around. They don't really care about what she considers important, they only act when it directly affects them. Emmy's new love interest is outright abusive and nasty to her and I just want to take her to the side and explain that just because someone likes you does not mean you need to tolerate their behaviour and hope it changes. I hated that Will and the others encouraged the relationship and it was bizarre to see Emmy enter a relationship when we never see her deal with her grief and move on from Atti. I believe both Will and Emmy deserve to be treated with respect, not permanently considered lesser by their love interests.

The humour is hit and miss, most of the time it's funny but I don't like that mentally unstable characters are made the butt of jokes.
