This was the exact kind of fantasy I was looking for. Rielle and Eliana's alternating chapters held my attention for every moment. Each chapter ended on a cliffhanger and I eagerly wanted to see what happened next. I loved how the two moments in time further enhanced the world-building.
Even though you partially knew of the fates of the characters in Rielle's time, the buildup was strong as I grew attached to these characters and you begin to wonder if the series will develop and allow the tragedy that unfolds to be remedied and for these characters to eventually acquire a happy ending. I will be jumping into book two immediately.
