The Crucible is a well-known classic, a play about the witch trials of the seventeenth century which was designed to clap back against McCarthyism. The wrongness of the verdicts in this play, everything that led up to them and the executions which followed is clearly evident. The really chilling thing is how easy it is to draw lines between the witch trials and practices still occurring in courtrooms and society today which inevitably lead to grave miscarriages of justice.
