The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan
4.0

I read this book in middle school and I got pretty far in the series before another Harry Potter book came out and I got distracted. Now that the series is completed, I decided to start back at the beginning with audio books.

I maintain my rating of 4 stars because I do really enjoy this series and this book but parts of it tend to drag. I love all the characters and I appreciate the depth of the world building but too many times I found my attention drifting during some of the detailed descriptions and expositions, despite the wonderful narrators.

This book is filled with adventure and conflict and mysteries and fantasy. There is even some romance and humor. It's well rounded but does represent a commitment because of its length. Rand, Perrin, and Nineve are favorites of mine but I enjoy following the divergent paths of all the characters Jordan has to offer. They are strong and intriguing, with flaws and deep histories. I think it is standard, good quality fantasy and I understand why some people liken this first book to Tolkien.
