Washington Black
by Esi Edugyan
Loved it! I’ve been describing it as a 20000 Leagues Under the Sea adventure book, but from the perspective of a little boy who was born into slavery. Needless to say, it can be real heart wrenching at parts. The writing was absolutely phenomenal! And as you got to know Washington more in the story line, the writing conveyed a level of internal freedom where Washington was also getting to know himself and embrace his autonomy. Highly recommend.
