Protect by Paisley Hope
3.5

I’m enjoying this series. I hadn’t realized they were all by different authors, and I don’t think I liked this authors writing style as much as I do Sloane St. James’ (author of book 1), but that was a minor thing. This was still a great addition to the series.

SYNOPSIS:

Once upon a time, Rowan and Violette were beginning to fall for each other. Still in high school, they were partnered together for a science project, and also Rowan was Vi’s brothers best friend. Fate, right? When Jacob got caught up in trouble, Rowan was manipulated into dumping Violette and it crushed her already slim self esteem. She left town as soon as she could after finishing school so she wouldn’t have to see Rowan around her brother at all. Ten years pass, and Violette has now moved back to Sky Ridge. Her twin, Jacob, passed away years ago in a firefighting incident, and that’s contributed to her ten years away from home. But now divorced, she returns home with her daughter to be close to her parents. She runs into Rowan one night while bartending, and he’s unaware she’s back. He vows to himself to do everything he can to explain to her what happened in high school and win her back. He’s never gotten over her. She says she’s never gotten over him, but that’s just her anger and bitterness from that time talking. He was her first love. As time passed, he wears her down and she agrees to go out with him. He’s hurt in the same type of incident that killed Jacob years ago and Vi is his nurse. The time he’s in her burn unit is when he wears her down. After spending time together, they both realize their feelings for one another never left, and are now coming back stronger than ever. She’s terrified of being played for a fool by him again, but he explains to her what happened in high school and promises her that she is all he wants. And it helps that he adores her daughter too. In the end, they end up getting married, and Violette says it was fate after all, and a little bit of spiritual guidance from Jacob on the other side.
