Eternals by Neil Gaiman

2.0

I've never been a fan of Kirby's superfamilies (this, the Inhumans, the New Gods), but I was intrigued by the recent Marvel movie and thought this might be an influence. It was, but I didn't care much for the story. Gaiman is clearly reinventing the characters, but he's also setting the whole thing within a particular slice of Marvel continuity. (We get a lot of Iron Man and superhero registration.) The result doesn't feel timeless and, worse, gets confusing in terms of plot. I did like the Romita Jr. art, however --- it reminded me strongly of Frank Miller.
