Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner
4.0

Crying in H Mart is a touching memoir about the author's dynamic relationship with her mother. It centers grief, love, hope, and regret. The author is able to artfully connect her readers to her culture by including luscious descriptions of Korean food throughout the story, which I thought was really wonderful (especially since food is such a unifying and important part of all our lives).

While I thought the writing was lovely and can easily say the author is a great storyteller, I also know I'm not the target audience for this book - which made it difficult for me to experience the emotional connection so many others have described. For anyone who has experienced grief I think this would probably be a very relatable depiction of losing someone you love, but someone who you also know wasn't perfect.
