This book has all the tropes I like...
- dark fantasy romance, slow burn, enemies to lovers, prisoner x guard, a mouthy FMC, and a possessive MMC who gives off strong touch-her-and-die vibes.

The dynamic between the two main characters really stood out for me. Both of them carry heavy pasts that explain a lot about who they are now. The FMC is stubborn, strong, and witty. The MMC? He’s dark, filthy, intense, and fully leans into those possessive, twisted kinks without shame. There’s this tension between them that feels deep, and their banters — whew! They see each other for who they really are, and when they’re together, they don’t pretend. They just are.

The last few chapters got a bit emotional and intense—there were so many twists and betrayals that I actually paused and said, “wait, WHAT?” 😂 And that cliffhanger?! Yeah. Prepare yourself.

Writing-wise, it’s descriptive and easy to sink into, especially for a debut. But I have to be honest, some parts confused me. The mother reveal part and the soul-memory twist toward the end didn’t quite hit right for me. It felt like a stretch that didn’t need to happen.

Still, if you’re into dark fantasy romance with betrayals, twists, and slow-burning tension, you’ll want to give this a try.

Would I read the next book? Yup. Mostly because I need answers—and I’m crossing my fingers about that memory/soul twist. I just need ELI and EVER 😮‍💨 (give Kelter another partner, please... maybe Kaleida?? 🤭)
