White Feminism: From the Suffragettes to Influencers and Who They Leave Behind by Koa Beck

informative medium-paced

4.25

This book details how feminism has long been a single issue campaign that largely excludes women and gender diverse people with other oppressed identities including people of colour, queer, disabled and poor people. More recently feminism has been branded as a corporate, consumerism and highly individualistic endeavour. The author calls for feminists to consider how to dismantle oppressive systems, rather than simply celebrating women CEOs as though that is a win for all women. I perhaps didn't find the alternatives or calls to action as concrete or detailed as they could have been - there was a lot of criticism of capitalism but little discussion of anti-capitalist alternatives that readers could inform themselves on and how to support leftist actions in day to day life.
