The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

4.0

I really enjoyed this book. Very different from anything else that I have read. If you love found family, physics and ghost, you are going to love this one!

My favorite trope of all time is found family. You can just tell me a book has found family in it and I will immediately put it on my tbr.

I’m not gonna lie, I was a bit confused about the plot the first 1/3 of the book, but I figured it out the more I read. I really like the idea of the whole ley line thing.

The pace was a little weird, especially in the first half of the book, which was also why it took some time for me to read. But besides that I think it was a very fun and easy read.

Something I also love about it, is that it’s marked as romance, also on the cover and back cover. With the whole “If you kiss your true love, he will die” stuff. But there’s barely any romance in it at all. I feel like it’s more slow burn, which is also one of my absolute favorite tropes. But yeah I think there are going to be more romance in the other books, but I like that it doesn’t take any of the focus away from the real plot.

Now to the characters!

Blue:
When I said I haven’t read any book like this before, I also mean I have never read about a protagonist like Blue. She grew up in an only women family of physics. She is the only one without the physic ability in her family. Though she makes the others abilities stronger. Blue is such a unique and kind person, I really enjoyed her character.
Her relationships with the Raven boys are so amazing. Her and Adam are so cute, but I also know her and Gansey are going to be in love so yeah. And her friendship with Noah is so pure. And she’s slowly starting to warm up to Ronan. I love how she’s not the typical female main character. We need more characters like her.

Gansey:
So I was a bit confused at the start, because we know pretty early on, that Gansey is Blue’s true love. And we also learn that he is going to die. But yeah, I was a bit confused when Blue and Adam started liking each other. I mean I love both of them, and they could be really good together, but I also know Gansey and Blue are going to end up together. Luckily they start interacting a bit more together after the first half of the book. Anyways, Gansey is obsessed with finding Glendower and figure out the mystery of the key lines.
As a person he is kind of “the glue” of the team. He’s the one that keeps everyone together. He wants to help each of his friends, even if they seem like lost causes *cough Ronan*. He wants Adam to move out of his parents place, because of the abusive household. He is kind of the rich one so he owns the house they (almost) all live in.
Gansey is extremely kind but also curious and adventurous. He wants to help his friends and to uncover the mystery of Glendower. I already love him<3

Adam:
I love all of the characters, but Adam might be my favorite. He deserves so much better
