I'm not sure why this one fell short of the other books I've read by Ali, but it did. I still thought it was a cute romance, but it just didn't live up to the other two.
First of all, it was so predictable it's not even funny. I knew almost right when we were introduced to the missing emails and missing files that
Guy was going to be the one taking all of it. He was too nice and well-liked and I had learned from her other two books that that's usually the guy to keep an eye on. I actually assumed that he was supplying that information to their competitors, but that wasn't really confirmed or denied I don't think?
But because of that, I couldn't get into the big twist and plot of the story.
I think Ali has a very cookie-cutter way of forming her stories and doesn't really change it up much which is disappointing. She writes good characters, but the plot lines are almost all the same so it feels like a "if you've read one, you've read them all" kind of situation and unfortunately this is the third book that I've read from her so this one fell victim to that for me.
That being said, I do like her characters and their relationships. I think Levi is so cute with how nervous he was around Bree and how that became so much a part of him that everyone thought he hated her because he didn't talk to her. I liked that she was finally able to get him to get past that so that they could actually talk to each other and their dynamic together was great.
I also liked that he gave her space and didn't force his feelings on her when he finally realized that she wasn't married. He knew that she would be skittish and didn't really want to be in a relationship after her ex and he didn't force her but continued to do things that couples would do until she came to the realization of her own feelings on her own.
In all, great character dynamics, but the plots really need to vary more. I'm unsure if I'm going to try another Ali Hazelwood book or not.
