this was not a good fantasy YA book. the writing was somewhere between being poor and mediocre, the flat world and magic building was in line with juveline and preteen fantasy novels not YA, some plot holes were filled with convenient “its fantasy who cares if it makes sense” answers.
it was just generally cringe and immature, the names of things, like the isles, seemed like they were from a book that should belong in childrens school libraries. this could have been solved by the book being more developed, in my opinion it needed a lot more reworking and replanning before it hit the shelves or less angst and changed to the teen / preteen genre.
however it was kind of fun. it was fast paced, it was easy to understand and digest, there was a balance of romance and action but these are the only ‘good’ things i can say about this book.
