Oil and Marble by Stephanie Storey

This was available in the AudiblePlus catalog, so I figured I'd give it a try. I liked it. I read [b:The Agony and the Ecstasy|321552|The Agony and the Ecstasy|Irving Stone|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327879079l/321552._SY75_.jpg|1504548] ages ago, so long I can't really remember it (I should put it on my re-read list). Historical fiction is always interesting, taking real people and events and working them into a fictional story. I do feel like I learn - often I'll look up aspects to parse the fact from the fiction. This included the (false) story of DaVinci using the same model for Jesus/Judas. There was an explanation from the author on her website about the flood (here, indicating it was DaVinci's fault, Micheangelo's brother being there) indicating what was real and not (there was a flood, timing had been shifted for the story, DaVinci's involvement M's brother added for the story). Definite indication (nothing too explicit) that DaVinci was gay, or bi-sexual. Everything here about Michelangelo was about his sculpting - nothing about his painting.

While I enjoy history as a whole, reading it in a fictional setting IS easier for me. I feel like I do learn and retain things, and am able to separate what is real from what is set up for the story. I do appreciate author's notes that explain it too.
