This was a reread for me. I read this twelve years ago, and need to familiarize myself with the plot, so I can continue on with the series.

Thank goodness, I have...for I had forgotten SO much of the plot, but also of the character of J.J. Graves.

I remembered that I liked her, but "how much" was actually forgotten. She's funny and competitent, but also going though the ringer in this book.

The sequences of what happened at the end of the first book...have dramatically effected our protagonist. Her trauma forced her to leave and seek solace in their family's cabin...away from Bloody Mary, Virginia.

Of course, in true form to these types of books...her first experience on her return to Bloody Mary, was bloody, indeed.

From there...wove a story of her finding her footing again (from the losses in the first book) with the help of her friend, Jack...the Chief of Police of Bloody Mary, Virginia.

Now, he helps her in MANY ways, which I wasn't favourable towards, at the beginning. Best friends to lovers is a trope that I usually like, but Jack was a "player", and I always felt that she could do better. Well, I was proven wrong.

The case was intricate and engaging. Going from clue to clue, and with reversals and red herrings.

Even though I had read it before...I was glued to the page, needing to figure out who dunnit.

I'm going to set this series aside for just a bit...to continue the #GraveyardSmash readathon...to find more clues to where Priss has buried her bodies.
