Brutal and beautiful. So intimately and effectively captures a complicated and misunderstood world, and especially the people in it. The stories that stuck with me most were The Old Paniolo Way and The Road to Hana, but all of them for so god damn good. These are short stories that are like really good poems, they leave you breathless on the last line.
