Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey

5.0

EDIT: I just finished my reread this book and while I do think that this book is a good time and I really want to know what happens next. I remember enjoying my first time reading this book more than the second. I will keep the 5 star review cause that is what I thought of it when I originally read it but I think it would be more a 4 star today.

We get two main perspectives in the this book, Holden, a Earther who worked on a water hauler comfortable in his way of life, and Miller, a Belter cop who works on Cres where sometimes you break the law to uphold peace.
I was not a fan of Miller's character. He gets a job to hunt for Julie and bring her home. This job turns into a obsession which turned creepy. Holden was a lot easier to like even though he is stubborn and will make the wrong decisions to what he thinks is right.
I liked the tensions between the Belters and the Earthers. It was interesting to see their differences and how they thought each other so different than each other even though they are both human.

The plot was engaging the whole time; there was rarely a dull moment which kept my attention but could be seen as exhausting towards the end of the story. I would have loved to get more into the political tension between Mars, Earth and the Belt as well as the consequences of the actions of the main characters. This book was described as Game of Thrones but in space, this comparison is not completely false; if you are going into this story for a political plot this story did not deliver in that comparison. However, this story is an epic story, grey characters, hard decisions, and intense plot.
