bellaabzug 's review for:
My Ántonia
by Willa Cather
people have been at me to read this for years. here we are, now, and i liked it very much. i love, love, love indisputably american novels, my current criteria of which are dealing with a vastness of space and tendency towards nostalgia.
particularly, i loved these bits: "she was like someone in whom the faculty of becoming interested is worn out," and "some memories are realities and are better than anything that can ever happen to one again." these are such AMERICAN concepts to me, and quite beautifully said, that if the book were these two lines alone, i think i would have taken the same (expansive) things from it.
