Graveyard Shift
by M.L. Rio
4/5 stars
"Maybe we can work out a- what do you call it? A symbiotic arrangement."
I had a good time reading Graveyard Shift. As someone interested in fungi, I found the fungi elements and the science talk an extra touch. They added a unique layer to the story, even though it is short. It made the novella stand out for me. Though, I can understand why some readers might not find those parts enjoyable. It's a shift from her other book, but I appreciated how this novella explored something different while highlighting the author's writing style.
What I also loved was the essay at the end of the novella. It offered a small glimpse into the author's thought process and explained how the story came to life. It made me look at the story differently and appreciate the small details more.
