I wanted to like this but didn’t. I understand where Butler was going with ideas like hierarchy, oppression against women, and Afro-pessimism. However, this book didn’t develop the ways in which I thought it would. There wasn’t much depth to it, especially when considering emotional depth. It was quite strange, even uncomfortable at times. I expected a lot more and was very disappointed.
