This was the first Thomas Hardy book I've read. I absolutely adored the writing style, I'd love to read longer book purely on that aspect.
The story was a good story, however, I had absolutely no sympathy for the maid. To be honest, I don't think you're meant to either.
An entertaining read, I would certainly recommend it as it's well written and short, you can read it in a couple of hours.
