gxldentrio 's review for:
Loveboat, Taipei
by Abigail Hing Wen
Engaging from the very start, Loveboat, Taipei is a bittersweet tale of growing up, and growing into yourself. Coming of age is such a complex process, the friendships and the relationships aren't straightforward and sometimes the characters regress before they go forward, but I was always rooting for all of them.
It isn't a perfect book. Some issues (like revenge porn and mental illness) are kind of glossed over, but in a way that feels realistic, if anyone knows what I mean.
The love triangle aspect reminded me of Never Have I Ever, because it was really well done. It never felt drawn out or like it had an obvious solution. It was really wonderful to learn more about the culture, and reading all the passages about Taipei and the Tour made me so excited to hopefully travel there someday.
4.5/5
