The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
5.0
Wow. Magical and wonderful and not really like anything I've read before. Trees that speak Latin! What's not to like?? Very highly recommended.
On a personal note about those trees - I finished this book on a Sunday morning and that afternoon took a trip over the border into Minnesota to take a nature hike at Blue Mounds State Park. Having the book so fresh in my mind made everything about that walk more magical, more interesting. Finn and I listened hard for the Latin but we didn't hear it - but that doesn't mean it wasn't there :)
*There was nothing particularly intimate about the way they sat, but something about the scene made Gansey feel strange, like he'd heard and unpleasant statement and later forgotten everything about the words but the way they had made him feel.*
*Blue tried not to look at Gansey's boat shoes; she felt better about him as a person if she pretended he wasn't wearing them.*
