Fifth Grave Past the Light
by Darynda Jones
OMG this book . . . this series . . . I can't help it I have to swoon. The comedy and romance were on point. After four books Reyes and Charley are finally taking the steps to define their relationship. As much as I like these characters I want to knock some sense into them as well. A relationship can't last solely based on thin veiled threats and sexy times.
These two are doing a lot of character growth. Reyes is starting to use his words more. Before hand he was so passionate, quick to anger, and now he is truly trying to talk to Charley. He has a lot of demons from his rough upbringing but he wants to make this relationship work.
They both push each other after there comfort zone. Charley can admit to herself that she has always loved Reyes, but now that he is actually here in front of her, she doesn't really know how to act.
Charley is growing as well. I wouldn't say she was becoming darker, she is just becoming more aware of her powers. She uses her new abilities to defend her friends and herself. This was also the first time I was ever really angry with her. She lashed out against her friend, Rocket, and it ached to listen to that part. The narrator did such an amazing job, I felt Rocket's betray and fear.
We also got more information this book about the upcoming war and who Charley really is. We learn more about the Reapers or Seekers as they are called on other planes.
I give this book a B.
We are getting a lot of information as the series progresses, it can be a little overwhelming at times. We spent a a good chunk of time talking about seekers and Reyes true purpose for finding Charley . . . and then we never talked about it again for the last 4 hours of the book.
