ilianka 's review for:
The Girl Who Played with Fire
by Stieg Larsson
Larsson explores the different perspectives on different topics such as the sex trade, feminism, religion, the foster care system, psychiatric evaluations, and more through different characters, which is well done.
The author definitely likes to geek out about different things; in this book, he occasionally tries to teach the reader algebra.
Good third person omniscient
I won’t read this book expecting contemporary romance; treat it more like Russian lit. In Russian lit, a lot of people cheat on each other, there are many fatalist parts, and it’s okay because it’s a critique of Russian history. If you treated Tolstoy like contemporary romance/fiction, it would end up in the same disgusting box as Credence. Blomkvist and Salander’s relationships are odd, but one shouldn’t treat them the same as Emily Henry relationships.
There are little pieces that make the characters feel more real, like how one got a sandwich from the local 7/11, or someone thinking about they knew a store mentioned in the investigation
I thought the slang Alpha Male came from Tik Tok; apparently not
It feels less like a trilogy and more like a single book followed by a duology
