The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

5.0

Oscar Wilde’s novel is a complex book to review. It is truly a challenge to put into words the many feelings and thoughts that came to me while reading it. So eloquently and richly written, The Picture of Dorian Gray is a piece of literature that is as impressive and relevant today as it was when first published in 1890.

This is a story about the veneration of youth and beauty, the loss of innocence and the discovery of impulses, passions, sins and debauchery. In his work, Oscar Wilde studies the human soul and the forever raging battle between good and evil, morality and corruption.

Wilde excels in developing a multifaceted narrative with complex and flawed characters, provocative messages, all brought to life in wonderful poetic prose. A powerful and timeless masterpiece that stands now in my favourite books collection.
