How Democracies Die: What History Reveals About Our Future
by Steven Levitsky, Daniel Ziblatt
challenging
informative
reflective
medium-paced
“History doesn’t repeat itself, it rhymes.”
If you still aren’t convinced that Trump is leading us down a dangerous path, I’d recommend giving this a read. How Democracies Die explores a handful of countries and the events and actions that eroded their democracies, ultimately leading to their downfall. Obviously we saw the warning signs back when Trump was first elected in 2016 and this book was released in 2018, but we’re really seeing some of these things unfold in real time. It seems like there’s still time to change our fate, but still scary shit.
At times this was a little hard for me to get through I think just bc it was a lot of information, but overall great read.
