Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff

4.0

In the same vein as Interview with a Vampire (Anne Rice) and The KingKiller Chronicles (Patrick Rothfuss), Empire of the Vampire shows Gabriel de Léon chronicle his life during an interview with Jean Francois, whilst de Léon has been imprisoned!

EotV is my first Kristoff book and given the plot for this and my unhealthy obsession with vampires, this was a necessary pick up for me.
Kristoff’s prose is incredibly unique and I found his writing really fit the gothic and almost medieval setting of this novel.
The banter between de Léon and Francois had some laugh out loud moments and I found the relationships we see through the lens of de Léon were really well developed as well.

Definitely an intriguing and explosive ending to this first book in a new trilogy and I’m looking forward to seeing where this heads in the next book!

(The artwork in this book is incredible!)
