This book was not enjoyable to read. But I think that is a testament to Joyce Carol Oates' skill. There is a certain authenticity to it. It really feels like you're reading the diary of someone who isn't all there. It is sick at times and darkly funny at others. It ends very abruptly and while I don't buy it 100%, I was also glad it was over.
