 i couldn’t get past the choice to make the only black female character so far sexually assault beth. i’m glad they took it out in the show. the blaccent the reader put on for jolene also felt uncomfortable. finally, this is personal preference but i felt like beth was really deadpan, and we kind of breezed past the first events in the orphanage. i do feel like this is on purpose and she’s meant to be autistic-coded, but i enjoyed the way the show contextualized beth as a character much more.
