Titan: The Life of John D. Rockefeller, Sr.
by Ron Chernow
Man, what a beast of a book. Everytime I read about Mr Rockefeller’s life, or character in the book it was 5 stars. Fantastic to read about and incredibly interesting. However, two things brought it way way down. First, anytime the book got into Mr Rockefeller’s businesses or what was happening to Standard Oil, the rating ranked. Below a one star if I could. So horribly boring. The second thing, is you would get moments like the following:
“Mr Rockefeller had a run in with Mary Sue in 1901. Here’s 15 pages doing a mini dive into Mary Sue, her life, and her history before we continue with how she interacted with Mr Rockefeller”. I had many eye twitchy moments when I had yet another metaphorical Mary Sue moment in this book.
I think I would have much preferred a deep dove into Rockefeller as a person, or a book that solely focused on that.
