Verrrrryy torn about this. There were many parts that were very disturbing (old timey marriage expectations, domestic violence, and so, so much sexual assault + rape), that I think we were supposed to look past bc of the time setting? But definitely took ya out of it.
There were also parts that were an utter slog that had my eyes glazing over. Like soooo boring. It was probably important world building but I had trouble caring.
And then there were also lovely parts between characters that had me so happy and giddy to read! Like I loved 30% of the book, hated 30% of the book, tolerated 30%, and then the last 10% is lost to the ether. I want to read the next one, but also cannot put myself through that anytime soon.
I would recommend this more to fans of Game of Thrones, LOTR, and heavy historical fiction.
