A glimpse into the lives of an elderly immigrant couple who are trying to cope with their son's illness, and the isolation they feel from the world, this masterfully crafted story (what else would you expect from Nabokov) will have you looking for signs and symbols all through the text, and, even as you feel sympathy for the couple in the story, will trick you into over analysing the texts and themes in the story.
