The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work
by Alain de Botton
I had high hopes after loving de Botton's The Art of Travel. I found this book to be much more inconsistent in terms of pacing. I enjoy de Botton's meandering and skill at tying together various topics to show what they say about human nature. But at times I wished he'd spent more words on some topics and fewer on others. Though, with a book as dense and philosophical as this one, it could have been the mood I was in while reading various chapters. Perhaps I was the inconsistent one, at times more patient than others with the book.
