"...that is the crowning evil, that we go so far as to love each other, you and I. And who else would show us a particle of love, a particle of compassion or mercy? Who else, knowing us as we know each other, could do anything but destroy us? Yet we can love each other."
Knew I was going to like this because I love the movie but knew even more as I started the book that I would probably fall in love with it because of Anne Rice's absolutely gorgeous writing style. Actually, Anne, I feel like sometimes you went a bit overboard with it, it was too ornate or detailed at times and that's why I'm not giving this 5 out of 5 but rather 4.5. There were moments that were hard to get through because they were so intensely intricate but that's ok I think because it makes sense with the character of Louis narrating the story. This was just such a well done story and the characters are so interesting - the relationships they have to one another are sooooo intriguing and oddly realistic. I just am really loving vampire stories at the moment and I absolutely love ones that manage to tackle the existential dread of immortality at whatever stage of life, the innately human values that can never be eradicated. Love it.
